Ba Vang Pagoda is located west of Uong Bi Town in Quang Ninh Province. The pagoda is located in the middle of Thanh Dang Mountain with an elevation of 340 meters above sea level. This pagoda can be considered as the most attractive spiritual destination in the North.
Overview of Ba Vang Pagoda
Ba Vang Pagoda is called Bao Quang Pagoda, meaning “precious light”. The pagoda was built with wood in the year of At Dau (1706), the reign of King Le Du Tong and the pagoda was then attached to the name of Monk Truc Lam Ma Ha Sa Mon Tue Bich Pho Giac (1659 – 1758). However, based on the vestiges that have been excavated by archaeologists, the pagoda may have been built earlier, that is, in the 13th century. The herd of cows and ruins thousand years
In 1987, a local farmer lost a herd of cows. He wandered around the region to look for it, in his heart, he always prays to God and Buddha for help. At night, the old man dreamed that Buddha with the silver beard: “Go up the mountain Ba Vang, you will find your cattle.” Although not believing completely in his own dream, he determined to follow the path of steep. When being at the height of the wide surface, stumbled, he discovered the stairs of brick leveling. He announced to the villagers. And at this moment, the herd cows returned home completely as if nothing happened.
Due to the random, the villagers gathered here and found the artifacts such as stone incense (pulpit) made of monolithic stone. Incense shape is the rectangle with a height of 1m45, 0.29m wide, 0.25m thick. At the top of the incense stick is the lotus bowl; the stone was made in the Le dynasty (1706) with the size of 0.70m, 0.45m wide, 0.14m thick on turtles 0.40m high, 0.94m thick, 0.70m wide.
Wells and strange story
Since its founding in 1987, the temple has been quietly witnessing the changes of time and space. During that silence, Bao Quang Pagoda did not have any abbot. So, the road leading up to mountain became more and more difficult to go, the pagoda gradually downgraded. Bao Quang Pagoda was like a deserted temple.
In 2007, the local authorities asked Thich Truc Thai Minh – who was the head of Yen Tu Monastery to head of the Ba Vang pagoda.
Standing in front of a desolate, degraded pagoda, Venerable Thich Truc Thai Minh suddenly had a strange feeling in the heart. Strangely, the well in the pagoda grounds, formerly dried up, suddenly filled the water again.
For the omen, Venerable Thich Truc Thai Minh determined to rebuild the pagoda. With only two hands the monk had a strong belief in the Buddhism. In the mind of the Venerable always exist a sentence saying: “Please burn the torch and go.”
Legend has it that for hundreds of years, anyone coming to Ba Vang Pagoda to drink water in a well will always be healthy.
