About the island
Located in the area of Bai Tu Long Bay, Quan Lan Island covers a total area of 11 square kilometers, from Van Don Mountain to Giant Mountain.
Quan Lan Island – Halong Bay
From the map, it can be seen that Quan Lan Island has a very important geographic position – lying on the marine gateway connecting Vietnam and other countries such as Chine, Japan, Thailand, and The Philippines. The island is rounded by a number of long white sandy beaches and the sea area for local fishermen to get high-quality seafood such as squid, butterfish, mackerel, prawn, sea cucumber…
In the period of time, from the 11th century, Quan was a very busy port for international businesses coming to Vietnam for trading. Recently, people have found lots of vestiges showing that trading activities were crowded and busy there.
How to get Quan Lan island
Belonging to Van Don (Cai Rong) district, Quang Ninh province, Quan Lan island is located about 230 kilometers far from Hanoi Old Quarter. There is two main way to travel to Quan Lan Island from Hanoi.
Halong Bay Cruise – Quan Lan Island
Firstly, you take a bus from My Dinh station or Drive from Hanoi to Van Don. The driving distance is about 200 kilometers and it takes about 4.5 hours to get to Cai Rong port – 2 kilometers from Van Don Post office. From Cai Rong Port, you can choose one of the tow ways below:
- A normal daily boat: at 7 am and 1 pm in Quan Lan and Van Don. You will spend more 150 minutes to Quan Lan Port. From Quan Lan port, you can take a Tuk-tuk to the center of the island (about 3 kilometers and in 10minutes). This is promised to be your wonderful experience to enjoy the beauty of Bai Tu Long Bay. Normally, the price for the boat is 60.000 VND/guest/way and price for the Tuk tuk is 15.000 VND/guest and you can share with others.
- Daily speed boat: at 7 am and 1 pm in Quan Lan Island and 8 am and 2 pm in Van Don. The speedboat will bring you to the island after about 45 minutes. Choosing this mean of transportation, you can save a lot of time but do not have the chance to enjoy the view of Bai Tu Long Bay. The price for speed boat is about 120.000 VND/guest/way.
Secondly, you can take a bus from My Dinh station or drive from Hanoi to Halong Bay (about 4 hours). Then from Halong port, you take a speed boat only one at 7 am in Quan Lan Island and 2 pm in Halong city every day. After 1.5 hours you will come to the island and contrast. With this choice, you will have a valued chance to see the view of Halong Bay. The price for speed boat is about 150.000 VND/guest.
What to do in Quan Lan island
Having many beautiful sandy beaches, tourists can choose a lot of activities when visiting Quan Lan Island: swimming, sunbathing or visiting beautiful destinations on the island. There are three most famous beaches in Quan Lan Island: Minh Chua, Son Hao, and Quan Lan beaches. It is truly sandy shores and strong waves there. Coming to these beaches, you are surely attracted by crescent-shaped stretching and the surrounding of hills interspersing old saurian pines.
