Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue (4th L) and delegates pose for a photo
at the shipment ceremony of the first batch of Hung Yen longans to Vietnam Airlines flights
The airline will serve the longans as dessert to its business-class passengers on 70 flights from Ha Noi City and HCMC to domestic localities as well as to Europe, Australia and Asia.
The longans that will be served are required to meet the VietGap standards. The sweet and succulent fruit will undergo multiple tests in line with food safety regulations. Vietnam Airlines will offer this dessert to its passengers for a month until the main longan crop lasts.
Le Hong Ha, deputy general director of the carrier, said Vietnam Airlines prioritizes Vietnamese products, adding that the Hung Yen longan is a typical example of Viet Nam’s farm produce, which the airline wants to introduce to its international passengers.
“In addition to enhancing service quality and diversifying the in-flight menu, serving longans is part of the carrier’s strategy to popularize Vietnamese farm produce in the world and partly help the farmers deal with the consumption problem,” Ha said, stressing that in terms of culture, serving longans to passengers on flights is a way to link aviation products with the nation’s traditional cuisine.
In June, Vietnam Airlines began serving Bac Giang Province’s litchis to its passengers.
